Local Spotlight: Getting to Know Sarah Spencer

In this edition of Local Spotlight I’m interviewing my hair stylist and local business owner, Sarah Spencer. In 2019 Sarah opened House of Hair on University Avenue with fellow stylists Elah Harlow and Rachel Babb.

Sarah is a certified Sunlights Balayage stylist and does incredible hand-painted coloring work. I’m excited to announce that I’m teaming up with Sarah to give away a set of R&Co. hair care products. Details on how to win are below.

Read on to get know more about Sarah and her salon…

C’Anna: Thank you for chatting with me! I have several questions for you so let’s jump right in….How long have you been a hair stylist and what inspired you to choose this career path?

Sarah: I’ve been a hairstylist for 8 years. At a very young age I knew that this was the career path I wanted to venture down. I’ve always showed my creativity off through my hair and it changes often. But I love making people feel good about themselves!

C’Anna: What motivated you to take the leap into opening your own salon?
Sarah: I wouldn’t say that owning a salon was ever something I wanted to do because it seemed like a lot of work and to be honest it was intimidating to me. But after working behind the chair for 8 years I wanted more. I wanted more flexibility and I had a vision of what I wanted. And to make working in my dream salon a reality, I had to create it
C’Anna: What would you say you specialize in or really enjoy doing when it comes to hair?

Sarah: Balayage/lived in hair is what I will say is my favorite. I love dimensional colors and I love being able to allow my clients to have low maintenance hair that grows out naturally

C’Anna: If someone has never been to House of Hair, what can they expect in terms of atmosphere, services, vibe, etc?
Sarah: At House of Hair we strive to make your visit the best we can. My goal was to make the salon feel inviting and welcoming and that you just weren’t coming to the salon to get your hair done but you were coming into an atmosphere that was like hanging out with your best girlfriends!
C’Anna: What other services does HoH offer besides hair styling?
Sarah: We offer a little more than just hair, Elah, our nail artist does some AMAZING nail art. On top of that we have spray tanning, body waxing, and lash services.
*Note for readers – Elah Harlow won the 2020 Best Of Morgantown award for mani/pedi.
C’Anna: What’s something you wish more people knew when it comes to hair care/trips to the salon?
Sarah: I wish that clients would understand the importance of salon quality products and how important it is to take care of your hair in between appointments! You shouldn’t spend a ton of money on your hair and then use drug store products that could potentially strip the color out of your hair and cause different types of build up on your hair that could change your color or make the service harder to achieve your end goal.
C’Anna: What types of clients does the salon specialize in?
Sarah: I would say our clientele are young professional women who know the importance of good hair care and don’t mind spending the money for quality hair but also the experience we provide at HOH is unique and they enjoy that. Our guests are our number one priority and we always make sure they are getting the best of the best.
I am so excited to partner with Sarah to giveaway a set of R&Co. hair care products! To enter, head over my giveaway page HERE!
